Game 116: Nats at Giants

Aug 15, 2015, 6:44 PM EDT

The Nationals continue their series at the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night as they hope to snap a four-game losing streak. Gio Gonzalez (9-4, 3.50) and Jake Peavy (2-5, 3.75) squaring off. The Nationals will also try to avoid dropping to .500 on the season for the first time since May 8.

Gonzalez looks to continue what has been an impressive stretch over the last month-and-a-half. In his last eight outings, Gio holds a 1.48 ERA. He tossed eight scoreless innings against the Dodgers his last time out on Aug. 10. That was the last time the Nats won a game.

Peavy has also been good lately with just three total runs allowed in his last three starts. He took the loss, however, in his last outing when he gave up two runs in five innings against the Chicago Cubs.

Ryan Zimmerman gets the day off with Clint Robinson in at first base. Jayson Werth has also been bumped down to seventh in the order for the first time this season.

Enjoy the game and please check back in the morning for analysis…

I thought that MW might try the batboy in the lineup tonight!

  2. ogremj - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:03 PM

*deep sigh*……Alright, let’s get em boys.

I need more updates on Span’s core. Like every hour on the hour.

    • simalex - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:20 PM

i am assuming he is done for the year.

      • JamesFan - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:19 PM

They are all done for the year. The statistical likelihood of pulling out and winning the division is approaching zero, although it is baseball and there is always hope.

      • simalex - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:39 PM

true enough. the worst case scenario is increasingly the realistic case scenario. i wonder what is going through mike rizzo’s mind right now.

      • zmunchkin - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:53 PM

They may be done. We won’t know that for a while.

At this point in 2014 in terms of the number of games played, the Brewers win the Central and the WC teams are the Cardinals and the Pirates. And the Giants don’t qualify for the post-season. And the Athletics led the Angels by 4 games in the West. Don’t think it ended that way.

So how about we let the games be played and enjoy the ride no matter how it ends.

      • simalex - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:42 AM

i would be stunned if we make the playoffs. absolutely shocked.

  3. rlndtln - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:07 PM

What does Danny need to do to stay in the lineup?

    • nats106 - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:51 PM

Beat me to the question. I’d say he would have to motivate the team to get off their respective derriere’s every time he comes to the plate. Clearly a rally starting HR last night did nothing since Desmond also went 1 for 4.

    • nats106 - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:53 PM

      Clearly a WTF question.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:17 PM

We warned him after the homer he was out tonight.

  4. simalex - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:21 PM

i’ve reached a kind of “zen”-like point, where, we are as mediocre as we are, and that’s just what we are. maybe we’ll be +/- a few of .500 at the end, but this team just isn’t right, and it’s a combo of poor managing and severe underperformance – it’s a combo of a lot of things.

i’m already thinking more about 2016 than this year, i’m sad to say. and I still love the direction this team is going, even if 2015 keeps pointlessly slogging along as is.

    • dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:25 PM

acceptance is the key….let go of all expectations and use the force

  5. saintpaddy - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:26 PM

Could be worse. Could be the Mariners losing 22-10 today. ooops did I just jinx us?

    • Doc - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:28 PM

Man what a score—and they’re supposed to be in contention.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:18 PM

        King Felix gave up 10

    • Eugene in Oregon - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:41 PM

And that’s after losing 15-1 on Friday, right?

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:12 PM

I thought that was the Patriot and Seahawks game.

  6. Eugene in Oregon - Aug 15, 2015 at 7:41 PM

When was the last time Jayson Werth hit 7th in the line-up?

    • zmunchkin - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:01 PM

According to his splits at baseball reference, never as a Nat.

Batting 7th in two games with 5 PAs in 2010. One game as a starter.

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:14 PM

Read my suggested lineup I posted Friday morning. Werth batting #6 and I was being nice because I moved Bryce up to #2 after Esco.

    • npb99 - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:40 PM

I like it. His performance doesn’t merit higher.

  7. Karl Kolchak - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:01 PM

Zen is a really good place to be. I’ve accepted that except for two sizzling months in Aug and Sep of last year when they spent much of the time beating up on the godawful NL East, this core group of players has represented what has essentially been a .500 team for the past three seasons.

Furthermore, I’ve accepted that the anonymous exec from another organization who more or less said back in 2012 that the Nats were making a mistake putting so many of their eggs in Werth and RZ’s basket for the long term was correct. I really wanted those two in particular to make that guy eat his words, but such is the way of things.

At least Desmond did them the favor of spurning their money so they will have much more flexibility to retool for next season.

    • npb99 - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:45 PM

Worth was a credibility move. But just because he’s highly paid and has two plus years left on his contract doesn’t mean he should get a guaranteed spot in the lineup through 2017.
Zimmerman was a sentimentality move. The team had already drafted its third baseman of the future, and there was no reason to jump the gun and extend Zimm.

  8. topnat - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:39 PM

When decisions don’t turn out as planned only one thing matters. What you do next. Always move forward or you wallow in the mire. Win tonight.

  9. Drew - Aug 15, 2015 at 8:45 PM

    Pirates 3 Mets 0 in the 7th.

    Let’s win a freaking game!

  10. bleacherbumerik - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:16 PM

The good news is that the Mets do have 1 more series against a team that is over .500…lol. Turn out the lights. They win this division by double digits.

    • rlndtln - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:18 PM

Clipp another 123 inning.Seems the Mets relievers can pitch everyday.Clipp will haunt us for years to come.

  11. senators69 - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:17 PM

    Digression:
Who’s pulling for Jordan Spieth in the PGA tomorrow?
Like to see him or Day win it.

    • rlndtln - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:39 PM

Familia again in the 9th.one out double to the wall and Cespedis throw one bounce strike to get the runner trying for a triple.Uribe a HR.3-3 bottom 9th.Familia it seems can pitch everyday and sometimes multiple innings.

  12. knoxvillenat - Aug 15, 2015 at 9:39 PM

Off topic somewhat but I think Jayson Werth batting 7th is a “gee I hope he has something left in the tank moment”. I can’t help but think Werth’s career is essentially over except the Nats will have to pay him for the next two years plus.

    • Section 222 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:01 PM

I’m very disappointed in Werth’s performance this year too, but I am almost certain that Rizzo, MW and everyone else associated with team and in a position to know his physical condition do not view his potential to help the team the way you do. He was hurt and missed spring training, then had the wrist injury. MW is trying to get him in the lineup but recognizes he shouldn’t bat in middle of the order until he gets going. I very much doubt the team is ready to give up on him now, just as they didn’t give up on him after 2011.

    • Karl Kolchak - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:20 PM

Some guys DO manage to bounce back after it looks like their careers are finished. Marlon Byrd was dumped by the Red Sox in 2012 at age 34 after hitting only 1 home run all year, but then bounced back and had the two best home run seasons at age 35 and 36 (24 & 25 homers), and this year is on pace to do it again at age 37 (19 homers). Doesn’t happen often, but it DOES happen–and Byrd was not nearly as good as Werth in his prime.

  13. dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:00 PM

The last late night game of the year!!

    • Section 222 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:02 PM

      Thank goodness!

  14. scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:03 PM

in order to win we would need

    mets to go 500
    play a 67% win clip

i think that puts us up 1/2 game.

    issues, most unexpected:
    – werth, dez and zim sever underperformance. nobody expected that
    – loss of stamen killed bp
    – max second half. had he pitched well we would be close to tie
    – fister regression
    – bad managing
honestly, none of us expected most if the above, nor does any past stats tell us we should.

    lets gyfng

  15. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:13 PM

Oh no! A first inning run!

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:20 PM

All 3 games we have had 1 and gave 2 back

  16. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:16 PM

    The cloud Mobster got Pence.

For third straight game the starter is given a lead before he pitches. Let’s see if we keep for at least inning tonight.

    • dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:38 PM

wheree there’s smoke there is fire

  17. Mrsb loves the Nats - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:20 PM

First inning runs/Nats scoring first haven’t worked out so well for us… sigh… maybe the tide turns tonight…

    Good luck Nats… PLEASE WIN…

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:23 PM

However there is no reasont not to win when we score first.

We have the lead just hold it.

  18. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:21 PM

Why is Espi not in left tonight?

    • dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:39 PM

because he hit well last night

    • Section 222 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:50 PM

Because he’s an infielder, not an outfielder.

The continued popularity on this board of this possible move is perplexing. He played 2 innings in LF back on June 7, and not a single inning since, much less getting start. I don’t know why that is, but has it occurred to anyone that maybe MW saw something in the one game Espi played in LF, or perhaps when he has shagged flies in BP, that made him disinclined to put him out there? Or, is it possible Espi really doesn’t feel that comfortable out there? Do you really think that MW hasn’t considered putting him in LF?

By now, it seems pretty obvious that he’s not considered an option for LF. I tend to think there’s a good reason for that, not stubborness or stupidity.

  19. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:24 PM

    OK Gio holds the lead.

    Now tack on a few.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:27 PM

That is a tack on. To the concourse

  20. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:25 PM

Huzzah. On to the second with a lead.

  32. Joe Seamhead - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:47 PM

OK, it seems somewhat civilized in here so far tonight, so I just want to say that the call on Rendon was “odd” at best. Regardless, I just want to say that as bad as Jayson Werth has looked? I’m not giving up on him yet. I honestly believe that Jayson, and Wilson Ramos, will play a big part in making this into an exciting race.

    • dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:50 PM

Nibble city. Just take the out. Don’t get fancy. You don’t walk the 8 especially when you are winning.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 10:59 PM

Of course Peavy has sucked til now and now he will become unhittable.

  62. abqnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:10 PM

well. So very hard to watch. Gio completely reverting to bad Gio. He can be so much better than this. But it is what it is, and recently, for the entire team, it is not good.

  64. scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:12 PM

    They r totLly cheating

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:15 PM

How? If you let them steal the signs how is that cheating. That is good baseball.

Gio was great then he simply stopped executing.

      • scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:19 PM

        Unsportsmanlike at best

    • rlndtln - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:15 PM

Going to bed and vacation next week.good luck whoever is left to take this torture.

  65. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:15 PM

    Didn’t block the plate.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:16 PM

Block the plate they are suppose to be automatically safe based on the new rules.

      • stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:17 PM

        Doesn’t get called, does it?

      • scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:17 PM

  67. dcwx61 - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:17 PM

Scherzer and Gio can’t keep them in the game
Zimmerman does and they can’t buy a run
    stupid game

  68. Joe Seamhead - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:17 PM

You have got to be kidding me! Taylor makes a perfect throw. How does Jose not get that tag down?

    • natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:20 PM

He is not a good catcher from what I have seen. How do you keep calling the curveball on Peavy. He wasn’t swinging at it.

    • Joe Seamhead - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:24 PM

Our catchers, both of them, truly stink at making the play on throws from the outfielders. I have watched high school and D3 college players handle them better. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! That play might be the most frustrating of the year for me.

  69. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:19 PM

Gio walks the #8 guy batting .150 and the pitcher and he’s upset.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:27 PM

He loses it a heart beat.

  70. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:19 PM

Maybe someone could show our boys the way to Triples Alley.

    • natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM

Won’t happen. The Giants position themselves much better then the Nats do in the outfield. Hit them to Brandon Belt. He’s not good.

  71. natsguy - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM

This is the worst I have seen the Nats play in their 11 years. Really very hard to watch. Its like trying to take your eyes off of a really horrific car accident.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:23 PM

      Celebrating the first year.

We were great before the all star game in year 1 and stunk after so far this year the same thing.

  72. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM

As Joe Gibbs would say it is gut check time.

If go 3 up 3 down we know the gut is empty.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:25 PM

We failed the gut check. Tanner Roark the best hitter of the bunch.

  73. Mrsb loves the Nats - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM

    FINALLY….. THIS…. INNING… IS…. OVER….

  74. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:22 PM

Got one foot on .500 and the other on a banana peel.

  75. senators69 - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:24 PM

So Gio’s batters in the 3rd go:
    Triple
    Walk
    Walk
    Single
    Double
    Single
    Out
    Out
    Single
    AND THEN MATTW PULLS GIO??

Ok, I know it’s the 3rd, but Matt…bubbala…we need to win the game…how bout a short leash??

    • stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:26 PM

Gotta keep your bullpen fresh, dude.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:26 PM

If he didn’t pull him after the 6th batter I don’t see why he did after the 9th.

      • senators69 - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:30 PM

        Exactly!

  76. scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:26 PM

I’ll give it one more at bat – then I’m catching up on “Suits”

  77. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:27 PM

Jose Lobaton batting .198 now. His doubleplay in the 2nd was rally killer.

  78. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:28 PM

Hector Sanchez batting .163 and Gio walked him. It all started with a triple and 2 walks to a .163 hitter and the pitcher. Brilliant Gio!

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:43 PM

      Pure non concentration.

  79. everendp - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:29 PM

  80. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:29 PM

A lot of good concerts I’d like to see in October. Looks like I don’t have to worry about conflicts with playoff games.

    • scmargenau - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:34 PM

This is a bad team right now. Rudderless.

Rizzo made huge mistake hiring a first year manager for a WS fav team. Suddenly we are old, broken and mortgaged to the hilt.

      Very upsetting.

  81. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:32 PM

Come on guys. Put up your own six spot this inning. Show some self respect.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:35 PM

They are laying down now. They had Peavy on the ropes and let him off. They do that a lot.

  82. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:33 PM

OK Tanner calmed the action at least for now.

But of course Gio let it get out of control and MW does know how to nip these things in the bud.

I still think they need look in the mirror talk, and if they had the players are not fixing it.

  83. Mrsb loves the Nats - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:36 PM

Escobar grounds into a ton of double plays.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:41 PM

I think it is 17 now

  86. manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:40 PM

The ump called strike 3 ball 2 Peavy.

Then calls a strike on Escobar.

Had a great discussion with 2 guys who played AA bal back in the 70s today at my wife’s reunion. They believe umps call strikes and balls so poorly that Robo Ump is getting closer all the time. I can only hope.

I really hate the inconsistency of the strike zone. I simply don’t understand it. The plate never moved, so in and out should never be a problem.

  87. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:42 PM

This ump is a piece of work. The worse they are the more belligerent they are.

  88. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:45 PM

  89. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:47 PM

Do our guys know about that place out in right center? Seems like a really good place to hit it.

    • natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:49 PM

The Beach Boys said it’s a place called Kokomo

  90. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:47 PM

Walks kill Roark. I can’t remember many games that Roark has given up no runs, I’m sure it’s happened, I just can’t remember that far back.

  91. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:49 PM

That Pence AB is a good demonstration of the fact that even the best hitters have problems if the strike zone is just random.

  92. Nats Fan Zee - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:50 PM

Look at the bright side … as Soon as Football begins, the weekend seats will be real cheap!

  93. stoatva - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:51 PM

Also, Werth looks like he needs a walker in LF.

    • natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:53 PM

I thought that was the batboy playing LF

  94. natswoobooho - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:52 PM

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:55 PM

    Giants 5 for 10

    Triples alley up date

    Nat 1 double

    Giants 3 triple 2 doubles

  96. NatsLady - Aug 15, 2015 at 11:52 PM

  97. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:00 AM

MW is fuming according to FP.

If he is fuming. He is mad at the wrong people.

Place you anger at the right people.

  98. natswoobooho - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:02 AM

Lobaton hits a 360 footer that carried another 30 feet

  99. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:03 AM

    Triples alley update

2 doubles. That was slightly left but close enough

  100. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:03 AM

Nats-car race. Okay, FP that was pretty funny.

  101. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:04 AM

    FP said the magic word.

    Grinding

Means a team that is losing but at least are trying.

The word grinding is only used by losing teamd

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:05 AM

Roark hits better than Zim just did. Might as well let him bat.

  102. natswoobooho - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:05 AM

I heard on the radio that the Z-man has struck out 10 out of his last 13 at-bats. Wasn’t there a better choice like inserting Espinosa..

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:06 AM

      Yes

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:07 AM

  105. NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:07 AM

Here’s where you REALLY wish Roark had done his job (not to mention Gio).

    • natswoobooho - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:08 AM

Roark came in and showed that Fister deserves to stay and Roark needs to go back to AAA.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:09 AM

Last 2 nights the starters have given away the games.

  106. natswoobooho - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:08 AM

It has to be time for Tony 2 Bags to get a hit.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:12 AM

Rendon this week has been very ineffective.

Before his quad injuries hit. The quad made fielding impossible not batting.

But since coming back he quit hitting like he did.

    • NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:12 AM

Can’t recall when he last laid solid wood on the ball, even if it wasn’t a hit. Suspect he’s not totally healthy.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:14 AM

Almost like he he isn’t seeing the pitches well.

  107. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:17 AM

Gio first 2 innings pitched fine 3rd sucjed. Roark’s first 2 innings he appeared fine the third one sucked.

    I don’t like the pattern.

  108. natswoobooho - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:19 AM

Thats the 3rd steal in 2 nights that Lobaton couldn’t get a grip to throw the ball.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:20 AM

The pitches aren’t good either. No runner has been chased back.

  109. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:19 AM

This reminds me of 2013 the pitchers show little interest in holding runnrrs

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:23 AM

      The stolen base scores.

Rivero doesn’t even pitch a good inning before screwing up.

Now Giants are 6 for 13 RISP.

  110. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:21 AM

    No answers.

  111. NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:21 AM

So generous of us to wake up the Giants’ offense, which had been dreadful before we got to town.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:24 AM

It is our best ever assembled pitching staff that seems to wake up many bats.

Two straight games we scored 5.

  112. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:23 AM

    Score. Some. Runs.

  113. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:27 AM

Kontos hung one and Bryce swung through it.

Then fouls one off his foot. What a lousy at bat had barrelled up the first the second doesn’t happen.

    • Karl Kolchak - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:39 AM

No, they’re a below .500 ball club. 4-12 in August if they lose this game; 8-19 since July 18th; 30-38 since May 29th.

    • rabbit433 - Aug 16, 2015 at 8:00 AM

I told you we were doomed when we scored in the first inning. That stuff has to stop!

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:50 AM

The question I ask if all 25 players played and executed as well as you would we better. If not kuck yourself in the ass and become a leader.

    • stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:51 AM

Storen can’t even protect 5 run deficits these days. He’s costing himself a bundle heading into his final arbitration year.

      • stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:05 AM

        Ayup.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:12 AM

He isn’t the only one who have cost themself lots of $$$

  130. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:55 AM

Storen game 4 in a row he has had a terrible performance.

    What is his deal.?

    • Karl Kolchak - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:00 AM

Papelbon took his job, ran away with his wife, stole his stamp collection and kicked his dog.

  131. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:57 AM

    Clint “Manos de Piedra” Robinson.

  132. nats106 - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:57 AM

He’s just maintaining team consistency. A lot of players have been terrible 4 games in a row.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:59 AM

      Timing is everything.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:11 AM

Over a 10 game period? Not many

  133. NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 12:58 AM

Drew Storen about to tie this thing up. Gio 6 Bullpen 5 so far.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:07 AM

      6-6 hitters 5

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:08 AM

        Now everyone has 6

  134. Karl Kolchak - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:02 AM

Drew should change his his walk up song to David Bowie’s “Putting Out the Fire with Gasoline.”

  135. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:03 AM

Remember when Drew’s ERA was One?

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:06 AM

      3.40 that didn’t take long.

I guess 8th inning is not his thing

  136. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:05 AM

Time for a 7 run rally.

    • nats106 - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:10 AM

Too bad Bryce isnt in too follow up on that Espi HR.

  137. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:07 AM

The gif of that play is just surreal.

  138. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:08 AM

Back to the bench for you, Espinosa.

    (Psst. It’s a joke.)

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:09 AM

      Benched tonight after the honer

    • Karl Kolchak - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:10 AM

Can’t have our number 3 HR in the starting lineup…that would be unfair to the other team.

      • stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:11 AM

And it makes all the other guys look bad.

    • nats106 - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:11 AM

Hardy har har. Back at ya

  139. Karl Kolchak - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:13 AM

    .500, here we are.

  140. stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:13 AM

Stay tuned for the post game presser and we can all watch a professional comedian at work.

“I know this is not a .500 team.” Just watch.

    • NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:15 AM

I just want to know if Bryce is hurt. If he broke something, it’s over. If not, there are still chances. 4.5 games is not hopeless.

Ray thinks the team is giving effort. So do I.

      • stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:19 AM

There’s a fine line between not giving effort and not maintaining the focus and intensity a player at this level has to have, I think. I think the problem is the latter. But WTH do I know?

      • simalex - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:20 AM

if this is what giving effort looks like, i guess i don’t know what the word effort means. the jayson werth that i saw play in LA looked like couldn’t give less of a damn.

      • nats106 - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:23 AM

Natslady, I just watched the replay and I’m thinking the same thing. He fouled that ball so hard, I thought I literally saw the ankle snap. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t have some sort of a stress fracture, but I’m holding out hope that he’s OK. I don’t see how he’s in the lineup tomorrow or longer.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:26 AM

Very poor execution. I look at the baseball card. If the numbers are the same than the execution is fine.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:29 AM

The sad part was the pitch before just miss plastering an off speed pitch. Had he , he would have not been in the batter box. The little things are always a part of the story.

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:16 AM

That wasn’t one of my points.

  141. kgwcoach - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:13 AM

    Blah ugh

  142. NatsLady - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:14 AM

I don’t understand why the Nats aren’t following my plan. They were supposed to win last night and tonight. Pay attention, willya?

    • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:15 AM

We score 5 and 6. Hitters heard you.

  143. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:14 AM

What will be NW’s talking points?

    Hitters grinded

Gio lost the release point on curve

We will see if Harper’s foot is barking tomorrow.

    Thought team was stealing signs.

    • stoatva - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:16 AM

We gotta go out tomorrow and get after em.

      • manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:21 AM

That is one of his standards.

        Thanks for reminding.

  144. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:20 AM

Will MW still be here come February?

    • natsguy - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:45 AM

Probably. Will he be here by next June, probably not.

  145. manassasnatsfan - Aug 16, 2015 at 1:31 AM

Oh no we have not hit Rock bottom.

Gio lost command of strike zone.

    Ask Cat

    Then MASN

    Cuts out. What poor editing.

  146. wmlsays - Aug 16, 2015 at 2:42 AM

At least they kept it within six runs.
