Game 80: Giants at Nats

Jul 3, 2015, 2:35 PM EDT

Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER

The last time the Nationals hosted the Giants … well, I guess the less said the better. You all know what happened. It’s a new season, though, and this weekend the Nats have an opportunity to keep their hot streak going against the defending champs.

Gio Gonzalez gets the start in tonight’s series opener (note the earlier start time of 6:05 p.m., giving everyone a chance to go to sleep a bit earlier in advance of the annual 11:05 a.m. July 4th game). The lefty can only hope he gets to throw more than 18 pitches this time after Saturday’s rain fiasco in Philadelphia. Veteran right-hander Jake Peavy is on the mound for San Francisco for only his third start of the season, having been on the DL since mid-April with a back injury.

I’m attending a family wedding this weekend, so unfortunately I won’t be covering the series. And Chase is on vacation. But never fear, because CSNbaltimore.com’s Rich Dubroff has graciously offered to step in and handle all the weekend duties from Nationals Park. I’ll still post the game threads here each day, but please be sure to read Rich’s full articles on CSNwashington.com. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday weekend, filled with baseball, fireworks, family and friends!

We better pound Peavy this time around. Make a statement. This is a good ti.e to build confidence vs potential playoff opponents.

  2. NatsLady - Jul 3, 2015 at 2:53 PM

Last time I wore my Gio shirt he pitched great. Gonna wear it again.

In case you missed this (from previous post).

NL, I did miss that and thanks for posting. Some very familiar names on the list.

Giolito will be promoted after the All Star Futures game and that’s where he belongs in AA.

  3. natsfan1a - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:01 PM

    Yes, yes we do. Heh.

“The last time the Nationals hosted the Giants … well, I guess the less said the better. You all know what happened.”

    • natsnatsnatswoo - Jul 3, 2015 at 5:01 PM

Yes, I seem to recall several major managerial blunders by Matt Williams, one of which led to me freezing my butt off at midnight watching the unplanned second game of a “doubleheader”.

      • natsfan1a - Jul 3, 2015 at 5:18 PM

So did I, despite having layered my clothing. It was dang cold.

  4. Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:04 PM

Score some runs! Even the best pitching can’t win without them.

    • mauimo22 - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:37 PM

And stop grounding into double plays, especially Ramos!

      • ArVAFan - Jul 3, 2015 at 5:26 PM

Especially not tonight, since Lobaton is our starting catcher. If Ramos grounds into a double play, that would mean Lobaton is injured–and we certainly don’t need that.

I shall have a word with Clancy regarding the bobbleheads. Gio is front and center, just in case he wants to pat his glove.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:20 PM

Have you bothered to look at the Nats leaders in GIDP/AB. Let’s just say Ramos isn’t in the top 3

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:47 PM

Didn’t we learn anything about playing 2nd baseman near the bag all the time and the first baseman off the bag?

  5. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:07 PM

Justin Maxwell in their lineup. He loves lefties.

    • adcwonk - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:33 PM

He hits almost 30 points higher against lefties.

      .231

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:37 PM

He’s played a lot for the Gigantes against LHPs and RHPs with the injuries to Hunter Pence.

  6. Drew - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:34 PM

How dismaying that Mark has priorities and perspective.

We’ll beat on, bats against the current…

  7. NatsLady - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:36 PM

Well, I can’t find Gio. He must be in the laundry. It’ll have to be Bryce.

    • natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 4:08 PM

Too bad but maybe Bryce will have a great game now 😉

    • natsjackinfl - Jul 3, 2015 at 4:56 PM

I wore my Gio shersey last start so I’ve got it again.

  8. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:43 PM

The Tigers have DFA’d Joba Chamberlain and Tom Gorzelanny.

    • NatsLady - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:47 PM

I was watching the last time Gorzy pitched. He really looked dispirited, going through the motions. It was sad, I remember him as being a good guy, well-liked in the bullpen.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 3:50 PM

Yah, reworked himself and fell down fast.

      • therealjohnc - Jul 3, 2015 at 4:25 PM

I shed no tears for Mr. Gorzelanny. Not only was he kinda rude to me at a fan event once (the only time I’ve ever had a player not be simply great), but even in his “good” season with the Nats in 2012 as a pitcher he was lights out in low leverage situations – but if the game was on the line he was terrible. For a while I thought it just seemed that way, but when you look at his stats compared to “leverage” on B-R, you’ll see there’s an inverse correlation. The higher the leverage, the worse he was: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=gorzeto01&year=2012&t=p#clutc

He’s had a solid career, and I wish him no ill. But I shan’t feel sorry for him or wax nostalgic over his time with the Nats.

  9. nattygoats - Jul 3, 2015 at 4:22 PM

1 run last night against Barves. And now Jake Peavy? Hope we win but I don’t think we have “it”

    • therealjohnc - Jul 3, 2015 at 4:26 PM

Well, I’ll say this for you NG. You are consistent.

      • veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 5:12 PM

Pretty sure he proclaimed his O’s fanhood a few weeks back. You know why he’s here.

    • dcwx61 - Jul 3, 2015 at 5:55 PM

      well, you would know NattieBoo

  10. stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:02 PM

Are you ready for Desi? Aw, sure. Why not?

Only 29k seats sold for tonight’s game, per our usher. That’s pretty weak. There will be more because of SRO and walk ups, but I’m surprised it’s not a sellout.

  11. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:12 PM

In the last 15 games 2 BB or less for out staff each game.

Tim Hudson the pitcher with most wins vs. Nats placed on DL.

    Play ball.
Desi new stance and position already ready?

  12. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:12 PM

That ball has to be caught as long as it was in the air. Very non-aggressive.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:15 PM

Noticed my auto correct fixed Pagan to pecan.

    • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:19 PM

Looked like he took a step back from up here then didn’t recover quickly.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:21 PM

Yep but still had make up speed and everyone slowed up.

  13. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:13 PM

Wow the Pecan hit looked catchable by either Taylor or Span, both must have got filled.

  14. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:15 PM

    Looked safe to me

  15. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:15 PM

    Safe by 3 frames

    • rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:16 PM

Desi caused that with a terrible flip.

  16. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:16 PM

Watching the beginning on a ESPN – interesting stat about Gio – first pitch strikes thrown 55% of time???3rd lowest of starting pitchers in MLB

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:18 PM

      Interesting, but not surprising.

  17. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:17 PM

Fielders not ready to play. First a pop dropped in because 2 fielders slow, then Desi to slow tossing to Espi. But at least Desi fielded it.

  18. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:20 PM

    Barista hits for Span!

  19. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:23 PM

When are we going to start sending runners in front of ground ball hitters?

  20. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:23 PM

2 hole has not been kind to Danny E….

  21. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:23 PM

Nats killing themselves with GIDPs in the 2 and 3 and 4 holes. Has to lead the Majors in that.

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:30 PM

Actually scratch that as Bryce isn’t the problem in the 4. 2, 3, and 5.

      • natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:38 PM

Looked up a few individual stats for GIDP for Nats…..Escobar now leads with 12, Zimmerman has 10 in his limited ABs, then Ramos with 8, Harp with 6′ Rendon has 5 in his limited time which seems like a lot for him, a Span 5, then Espi and Desi with 3

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:41 PM

Exactly. Rendon leads the team in GIDP/AB

  22. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:23 PM

We miss tendon.get danny out of the 2 hole and put escobar there and bryce

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:24 PM

      Whose tendon?

      • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:30 PM

        He’s pulling your ligament.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Still checking for RA Dickeys missing ligament.

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:40 PM

My autocorrect changes Rendon to tendon every time

  23. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:24 PM

I respect the heck out of the Giants organization…. but man, do I loathe them…

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Me too. Sabean and Bochy are a great pair.

  24. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:29 PM

The old not hitting with RISP starts early tonight.

  25. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:32 PM

The Giants will out smart us.Bochy will never let Harp beat them.

  26. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:33 PM

    Nice 4-6-3

  27. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:34 PM

    Nifty GIDP

  28. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:39 PM

New swing better result. Let’s see how round 2 goes.

  29. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:43 PM

Come on MAT told you need to identify a slider and quit trying to pull them. Even if you make contact it is almost always a grounder short, so unless plan to to right no use swinging at one that starts medium high.

  30. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:46 PM

Peavy made that look easy. Why can’t our regular hitters do that?

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:51 PM

Last night we had 2 who couldn’t bunt, the Braves both succeeded the second one set up the winning run.

I prefer with a position player to do a hit and run

  31. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:48 PM

Third straight inning leadoff single. Two of the three batters you had 2 strikes on. Gio pitch tough after 2 strikes

  32. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:49 PM

What I like so far with 2 or less BB streak going, so far no nibbling from Gio.

  33. stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:50 PM

Whoever saw Gio go through 3 innings on 32 pitches, 24 strikes?

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:52 PM

I would be off his case in a heartbeat if he did this all the time.

    • veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:56 PM

He’s very hot/cold these days. Consistency is not his game.

  34. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:54 PM

    Dratz…. thats foul…

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:58 PM

Still a terrible angle. Looked foul by less than a foot, but this issue is to easy to fix to let it go. Robinson’s in Philly might have been fair, but again no camera.

  35. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:56 PM

Again we need a camera on the line. Looks foul from angle.

Why is there no camera on rpeither line. I blame the Nats and MASN absolutely no reason for great camer located correctly.

It takes no effort front row second deck perfect location.

    • Section 222 - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:06 PM

I’m pretty sure they do have good camera angles for the foul lines for HRs. That’s a reviewable call. In fact, I think they automatically review it if it’s close just like they review a HR where there’s a question whether it made it over the fence.

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:14 PM

It is not square on the line, but should be

  36. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:57 PM

Thats an ab that not enough regulars give us.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Much better than Span or Espi that inning

  37. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 6:59 PM

Gio one of the few batters not to swing at a ball tonight. To many swinging at balls running away out of the zone.

  38. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:02 PM

The team as is now is just an average team with real good starting pitching. We can not consistently hit especially against a smart pitcher.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:04 PM

We hit fastballs better than junk.

  39. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:02 PM

    • veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:08 PM

One week, it’s the pen. The next week, it’s the hitting. The next week it’s, the rotation. Welcome to baseball. Enjoy the ride.

  40. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:03 PM

I would love to sit when the batting coach goes through the pitchers with the batters. Is he coaching at all? It sure seems the same mistakes are not being coached through.

I said this before I never see baseball coaches coaching during a game. Football and basketball coaches do nothing but coach.

  41. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:06 PM

Three up three down. Keep it up Gio

  42. dcwx61 - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:12 PM

    • dcwx61 - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:12 PM

    • rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:17 PM

Now you know why they are the World Champs. Finally somebody figured out if you walk Bryce 4 times a game we will never score with this line up.They are playing with a patched up lineup like ours but always figure a way.

      • Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:25 PM

“They are playing with a patched up lineup like ours but always figure a way.”
        ==================================================

        Always? Really?

Giants are 42-38, while Nats are 43-36.

        Nats average 4.35 runs/game, Giants average 4.26.

  44. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:15 PM

Desi new stance 2 I see contact, but other improvement. We need

  45. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:16 PM

Patient AB by Bryce there too bad next 2 batters couldn’t do anything.

  46. Theophilus T.S. - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:19 PM

Desmond at least made contact. If he can do that once every other AB he’ll only strike out another 140 times this year.

  47. Section 222 - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:20 PM

mnf, you constantly criticize other posters for negativity, but that’s pretty much all we’re getting from you tonight. Give it a rest.

  48. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:24 PM

    9 in a row now

  49. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:26 PM

I believe I am fair and Balance. Some good some bad depending on activity.

Negativity is also assume you are going to lose based on what is happening.

I am sure we are going to win.

    • Section 222 - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:43 PM

I’m sure the negative posters you criticize think they are being “fair and balanced” too. (Poor choice of adjectives if you’re trying to be complimentary, by the way,) But all I see tonight is criticizing and blaming. And almost 1/3 of the comments on this thread are from one person too.

  50. Danny - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:31 PM

Can’t hit 2 rookies, now here is 9 ERA peavy shutting is down again.

    • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:35 PM

5.68 now so, you know, a bad inning or two was enough to make it 9.

  51. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:31 PM

Eugene they won the World Series and beat us with 2 40 year old pitchers and an inferior team.

    • Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:44 PM

Are you addressing last year’s Giants or this season’s? Your statement that they ‘always figure a way’ seemed to be about this year’s team (pretty clearly, as I reread it). And this year’s Giants have lost 38 games. Which suggests to be they don’t ‘always’ find a way to win. I’m not suggesting that the Nats are a perfect team — they clearly aren’t. But there are demonstrable facts in baseball. And facts are much more powerful than hyperbole.

  52. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:32 PM

How can we look this sad against a washed up pitcher.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:40 PM

Because we are trying to pull too many of pitches on the outer half. It is visible just not being fixed.

  53. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:37 PM

    Nice play MAT.

  54. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:38 PM

  62. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:46 PM

6 pitch inning and Espi and Esco were 1st pitch swinging. Awful inning.

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:55 PM

Posey hit the first pitch . it is not the pitch number it is a pitch. A fastball is easiest to hit so why not hit it? What the problem is despite being the easiest to hit you don’t square up.

  63. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:48 PM

Need to get the A team back.It is a miracle we are in first by 3.5 games .Just tells you how bad our division is.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:50 PM

Doesn’t matter as long as we win it.

  64. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:48 PM

    That was predictable…. of course it’s Posey…

  65. natsjackinfl - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:49 PM

    • rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:50 PM

      • Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:53 PM

So you would have walked Posey with no outs, as the leadoff batter?

    • Nats Fan Zee - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:54 PM

I’m wet and its too light for fireworks yet so no, I think we should pay the rest game … Thanks

  67. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:53 PM

Stupidity the only guy that could beat us.Walk Posey every time just like they walked Harp twice.

    • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:54 PM

Barry Bonds in his juiced up prime, maybe.

But Posey did not hit that one.

    • rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:01 PM

      FINALLY

  71. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 7:58 PM

Harper had he could blast and simple fouled straight back. Posey didn’t waste his.

  72. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:00 PM

    CRobbbbbbbb

  73. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:01 PM

    I TOTALLY CALLED IT!!!!!!

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:04 PM

I see your two and raise you one

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:10 PM

        I have to fold

  74. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:01 PM

Gio pitched his azz off. Thank you Clint Robinson.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:04 PM

      Indeed

  75. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:02 PM

    Desi two good contacts tonight.

    Baby steps

  76. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:02 PM

btw…some people need to eat some crow. Step right up.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:11 PM

No crow for me I had us winning (not that we have yet)

  77. Theophilus T.S. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:02 PM

Robinson will end up the year w/ more PAs than Zimmerman, which probably won’t be a bad thing.

  78. Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:05 PM

Very happy that the Giants showed how much smarter they are by walking the lead-off hitter.

    • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:12 PM

      ‘enkew.

  79. natsjackinfl - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:05 PM

Man, I love 39 year old rookies. And Rick Schu can stick around a couple of more innings.

    • natsjackinfl - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:08 PM

The 9 is too close to the 0. I love 30 year old rookies.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:09 PM

Still about 1/2 our ages 😉

      • natsjackinfl - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:13 PM

Fortunately, 30 is closer to half my age than 39. But not by much.

  80. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:06 PM

Gio for the 8th and Storen the 9th.I guess if Taylor gets a hit MW may hit for Gio.

  81. stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:11 PM

How’s that walk the leadoff hitter strategy looking to you guys now?

  82. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:11 PM

Clint Robinson with just what the Doc ordered.

  83. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:12 PM

Eugene you do not get it.They let Robinson beat them. Not Harp 3 times.YOU CAN NOT LET POSEY BEAT YOU BOTTOM LINE.

    • Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:20 PM

So, to reiterate, you would have walked the leadoff hitter with no outs? That’s what you’re saying, right?

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:20 PM

Agreed. The coaching plan by Bochie was fine. The execution by Robinson beat it.

    • Eugene in Oregon - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:23 PM

Actually, forget it. Because you’re right. I don’t get it. And I don’t think I will.

  84. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:12 PM

Great game by Gio…..let’s get the win now

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:13 PM

      +2

  85. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:13 PM

    Espiiiiiiiii

  86. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:13 PM

Clint does hit mistake pitches and inside pitches. How do you not throw soft stuff outside to CRob.

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:14 PM

I always hope for inside for him.

  87. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:14 PM

That’s what I’m talking about Espi. That’s what you have in you. Web Gem!!!

  88. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:16 PM

Oh Loby, hold on to that foul tip.

  89. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:18 PM

    Nice inning Thirton

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:19 PM

Good finish. I’m on a long delay.

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:29 PM

        Watching on your tablet away?

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:30 PM

I use my buddie’s slingbox so I get the exact DC feed. It’s slower.

  90. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:18 PM

Look at the infield defensive positioning now against Pagan. CRob way off 1st and Espi straight up.

  91. ArVAFan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:20 PM

And who had Gio with no walks? When was the last time that happened?

  92. stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:21 PM

    41,693

Usher gave bum info. Not first time.

  93. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:24 PM

    Please Danny…. no DP….

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:27 PM

Why doesn’t he bunt there? He;s a good bunter. Bunt for a hit.

      • Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:28 PM

When is his last hit in the 2 hole?

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:29 PM

        He had 3 on Tueday

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:31 PM

        Third inning Wednesday.

  94. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:28 PM

Think I would have bunted Danny here….wasted AB….get the runner to 2B, stay out of DP and get Harper up again for sure

  95. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:28 PM

A shame you can’t run & hit with Danny in the 2 hole. Giant hole between 1st and 2nd.

  96. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:29 PM

Because MW does not have it.Bunt and worst case runner on 2nd with Esco and Harp.He just does not have it.

    • rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:31 PM

Great AB.Now Eugene they have to pitch to Harp.

  97. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:33 PM

Wow fast ball just missed good contact, it hitting under it.

  98. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:33 PM

Oh Bryce wants that pitch back. Had the kid 2-0.

  99. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:34 PM

MW will never hit Tyler now but thats the move with Tyler a better fielder for the 9th.

  100. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:35 PM

Never do any thinking outside the box.If a lefty had started Tyler would have played.

  101. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:38 PM

    Drew hit the zone.

  102. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:38 PM

    Throw strikes Drew. Throw strikes.

  103. conatsguy - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:38 PM

This is a no kiddin test for the 2015 model Storen.

  104. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:39 PM

Excuse me while I breathe deeply (inhale exhale) into this brown paper bag…

    #nervous

    • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:40 PM

Took my maloox I am fine.

  105. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:39 PM

Desi that is more like it. Not an easy play.

  106. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

Great win. Wins like this are important.

  107. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

At least now when Posey gets up that Sandoval isn’t on-deck behind him.

  108. conatsguy - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

    Good job kid

  109. Mrsb loves the Nats - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

    Oh. My.lord…. I thought TIE GAME….

  110. natslive - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

Way to go Drew and Nats

  111. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:42 PM

    Posey just missed that. Whooooooooa.

Great win. CRob needs chocolate sauce!!!!

  112. dcwx61 - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:43 PM

Hoo Haaa! Nats Win by scoring more than 1!

  113. rlndtln - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:44 PM

Thats why you are very careful to the only guy that can hurt you.No Pence,no Sandoval.Desi is back.Great defense and he is getting close.

    • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:46 PM

Desi comes up big, not once, but twice in the 9th. Great job and rifle throws to 1st.

  114. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:46 PM

Sorry, that was a Chocolate worthy moment for CRob.

    • veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:47 PM

      agree

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:49 PM

I’ve been tough on CRob’s defense and inability to go the other way, but he won the game for the Nats with 1 swing tonight and that’s what we need is guys who are difference makers.

Also, Desi just came up huge on defense and same with Espi.

  115. conatsguy - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:46 PM

That was a Huge test for Drew. Playoff pressure game and he answered the call.

    • veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:47 PM

      Dez answered the call.

      • Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:53 PM

How much was that ball that Desi got to off Panik remind you of the one off his glove in Game 5.

  116. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:50 PM

That’s a big boy Save there for Drew.

  117. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:52 PM

Drew got Posey on a 84 slider. Not sure if that was the location he wanted.

  118. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:53 PM

Twas a hangar. I was worried when I saw it off his bat.

  119. veejh - Jul 3, 2015 at 8:53 PM

Twas a hangar. I was worried when I saw it off his bat.

  120. conatsguy - Jul 3, 2015 at 9:04 PM

Loved the expression on Clint’s face about 2 minutes after that 2 run shot! Will he remember this night 60 years from now? I bet so!

  121. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 9:05 PM

Posey likes 1st pitch strikes. This is the HR off of Gio. Nice and low but middle of the plate.

  122. Ghost of Steve M. - Jul 3, 2015 at 9:08 PM

    The CRob HR

  123. natsfan1a - Jul 3, 2015 at 9:13 PM

    Nice win, Nats. Very nice.

  124. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 9:34 PM

The usher who said there would be 29,000 or so was either given bad info, misheard the info or we has 12,000 people walk up.

    41,623

    • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 10:15 PM

I’m not shocked. He’s sort of a doofus.

      • stoatva - Jul 3, 2015 at 10:19 PM

He didn’t mishear it though. He showed us the handout he had that purported to show only a little over 29000 sold. Place really filled up though, as I had originally expected.

      • manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 10:51 PM

12,000 unbelievable walk up. Great show

  125. manassasnatsfan - Jul 3, 2015 at 10:55 PM
