Baseball in the District – Tom Schad joins for Nats roundtable

Jun 29, 2015, 4:32 PM EDT

Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER

On this week’s episode of ‘Baseball in the District,’ Tim Murray of ESPN 980 and I welcomed in Tom Schad of The Washington Times for a roundtable discussion on the Nationals’ off-day.

Schad sat down for the entire episode as we talked about the Nationals’ recent winning streak, how their pitching staff is shaping up and the recent injury scares for Bryce Harper and Yunel Escobar. We also gave our picks for the 2015 All-Star Game and discussed whether Stephen Strasburg is now in the clear after two impressive starts since returning from the disabled list.

You can listen to the show on ESPN 980’s website or download it on iTunes.

Trea Turner forgot how to hit in AAA. Saw that coming

Syracuse has just been bad news for any prospect this year

    • Eugene in Oregon - Jun 29, 2015 at 11:34 PM

After 3 games and 9 ABs you’re making that call?

      • Danny - Jun 29, 2015 at 11:42 PM

4 games and 14. I just didnt see the rush in promoting him

With Burris in DC, somebody had to go up.

      • Dave - Jun 30, 2015 at 11:50 AM

Well, I agree with Eugene: that would make Turner 0 for one four-game series. Way too early to judge.

Stick a fork in him, send him back to San Diego, trade him for Cutter Dykstra….

      • Drew - Jun 30, 2015 at 2:05 AM

I hope you’re joking. Remember: Turner started 0 for 11 in AA ball.

I’m glad he’s being challenged. He’ll get a couple of knocks, start to relax and his talent will take over.

BTW, if you need a chuckle: The Nats’ starter tonight at Auburn was a guy named Joan Baez.

I can hear the howls now, when they do call him up here and he starts 0-20.

      • Dave - Jun 30, 2015 at 11:48 AM

Drew, I read a funny tweet or retweet by Gene Weingarten of the WaPo in which he (or somebody) really hoped that Joan Baez is a lefty.

      • Sec 3, My Sofa - Jun 30, 2015 at 2:27 PM

Alas no, this Baez is a righty.

BUT … In that Auburn game Baez started against the Brooklyn Cyclones (who won going away, 11-4), the headline in the CCNY paper’s game story was “Diamonds and rust!”
